It is officially reported that at least 125 people dead including 2 police officers, and nearly 320 injured due to clashes between rival football team fans in the Kanjuruhan stadium in Malang city of eastern Indonesia. But some reporters claim the death toll at more than 170. Clashes brokout between supporters of football teams Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya soon after the end of the game when Persebaya Surabaya team defeated the home team Arema FC. Kanjuruhan stadium, where the match was held, is designed to accommodate 38,000 people, but actually 42,000 tickets had been issued. According to Police fan violence is a perennial problem in Indonesia, and this time about 3,000 people stormed the pitch. To control the violence police fired tear gas which triggered panic and stampade. Amid the confusion, the rioting spread outside the stadium, and about 5 police vehicles were toppled and set on fire.
